Nana Nilla Ice Cream
Roasted banana ice cream with crushed vanilla wafers and a nostalgic ripple.
Make something worth remembering.
Roast the bananas
- Heat the oven to 375°F. Peel and slice the bananas, then place them on a parchment-lined pan.
- Sprinkle with sugar if desired. Roast for 12–15 minutes, until soft, lightly browned, and syrupy.
- Cool for 5–10 minutes, then mash or blend until smooth. Stir in the lemon juice if using.
Churn
- Prepare the Standard Creamy Ice Cream Base and whisk in the cooled banana mixture.
- Chill and churn as directed, adding the crushed vanilla wafers during the final 30–60 seconds.
Finish
- For a ripple, layer the ice cream with extra wafer crumbs and a light drizzle of honey or sweetened condensed milk before freezing.
Family note
What makes this ours
Roasting the bananas is the small move that makes this flavor sing: deeper sweetness, less water, and a little caramel at the edges.
