Pizza Sauce and Pizza Dough

The kids and I make homemade pizza often. We sometimes just use a prepackaged crust and sauce. We use the best mozzarella cheese we can find and we like to add finely ground sausage.

Ingredients

  • 1 10 ounce can tomato puree
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic or garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon granulated onion or onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 cups unbleached flour
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. To make the pizza sauce, mix together well the first 8 ingredients, from the tomato puree through the 1 teaspoon of salt. This is good for 1-16″ pizza. It’s good!
  2. To make the dough, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the lukewarm water and let stand until foamy, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  3. Combine the flour and salt in a bowl. Make a divot in the flour mound and add the yeast, sugar and water mixture; add the olive oil. Mix together and knead until smooth and elastic, 5 to 10 minutes. Fold and mix the dough into a soft dough. Add a little flour if needed.
  4. Let rest before rolling out.
