Papa’s Cookies (Nan’s Sugar Cookies)

Nan was my great-grandma. She was famous for her baking. My great-grandfather, Papa, loved her sugar cookies so much that we called them “Papa’s cookies”. Nan always had “Papa’s cookies” in the cookie jar. Brigit Kennedy Martell

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 sticks butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 scant teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cream together sugar and butter. Add Vanilla and eggs. Mix well. Add buttermilk. Gradually add flour soda and salt.
  2. Divide dough into 2 balls. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Roll out on a floured surface and cut into shapes.
  3. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes.
