Nan was my great-grandma. She was famous for her baking. My great-grandfather, Papa, loved her sugar cookies so much that we called them “Papa’s cookies”. Nan always had “Papa’s cookies” in the cookie jar.

Ingredients
2 cups sugar
3 sticks butter, softened
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 scant teaspoon salt
Instructions
Cream together sugar and butter. Add Vanilla and eggs. Mix well. Add buttermilk. Gradually add flour soda and salt.
Divide dough into 2 balls. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Roll out on a floured surface and cut into shapes.
