Goof Balls

This is a long-term family favorite of the Martell family!. It was made at Christmas time under the supervision of Dad. Lots of memories of Dad with this cookie recipe. Teresa Pickens The least favorite part of making this cookie was cutting up the sticky dates, but then they came out with pre-chopped dates! Hallelujah! Marie Isbell James R. Martell

Ingredients

  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of dates, cut into small pieces. Or buy precut dates!
  • 2 cups Rice Krispies
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Place the sugar, butter, egg and dates in a heavy bottomed sauce pan and brink to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue stirring as it boils for 5 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and add Rice Krispies, nuts and vanilla. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Cool until it is comfortable to handle. Roll into 1″ balls.
  4. Roll the balls in powdered sugar.
